The Private-Public Screenings project has concluded. In total 1178 Private-Public Screenings took place across the globe during February and March 2011. Below you can read more about the Private-Public Screening project which was developed by Efterklang and Vincent Moon for the release of An Island. We have kept the page as it looked when the project was running, but blocked the sign-up application. You can see photos from the screenings here and a map of all the screenings here.

It is now possible to host Official Screenings of An Island. Get in touch with Rasmus Stolberg – Rasmus [at] if this has your interest.

Efterklang and Vincent Moon welcome all our listeners and followers to host their own screenings of An Island.

We call these screenings Private-Public Screenings and the rules are very simple.

  • The screenings need to have free entrance
  • The screenings need to be public.
  • The screenings need to have a minimum capacity of 5 people
  • The screenings need to be verified by Efterklang & Vincent Moon and only screenings that are featured on are official Private-Public Screenings

In other words as long as entrance is free and it is an open event (as capacity permits) the Private-Public Screenings can take place in your home, at a café, in a school auditorium or any place you can think of.

The Private-Public Screenings will run for two months – February and March 2011. The screenings are private because they are hosted by private people and public because the screenings are official and open to anyone – hence the name Private-Public Screenings.

"We hope that a lot of people will host and attend screenings of An Island. The Private-Public Screenings are our attempt at creating a free and inspiring distribution method for our film. It is also our attempt to give something back to our many supporters around the world. We have financed this film ourselves and we hope that we can recoup some of that money through donations. However, the memory of the 4 days we spent on the island of Als in August 2010 and our joy and pride of the finished film is a huge reward in itself." – Vincent Moon & Efterklang

This is where you sign up to host a Private-Public Screening, but first we recommend you to read the rules and introduction on the left.

Once you submit your details we will verify them as fast as possible and we will notify you by email once the screening is announced on Please notice that we need 11 days minimum to approve you screening and get you the files.

If you represent a venue, cinema, festival or any other form of organization in the cultural and entertainment world and you are interested in setting up a screening, then please contact Rasmus [at] to get info about hosting Official Screenings

The hosts of Private-Public Screenings can invite friends and strangers to their screenings any way they prefer.

In addition to this it will be possible for anyone to contact the host of a screening in the Attend a Screening section on this site. Here people can request to be invited for a Private-Public Screening

If you plan on hosting a screening in your home you have full control over who shows up. If you only have room for 5 people and you already know who these 5 people will be – then you can mark your Private-Public Screening as fully booked already when creating the event. It is also optional for you to decide if the street name and number of the screening is visible or not in the Attend a Screening section.

However, please remember that the screenings are public. If space permits we encourage the host to welcome anyone who asks for an invitation. When there is no room for more guests the host can log in to and change the status of the screening to fully booked.

Vincent Moon and Efterklang will both help spread the word about the many screenings via Twitter and Facebook. We encourage hosts to announce their events and spread the word about An Island and the Private-Public Screenings via their social networks and personal websites if possible.

As a host you will receive a personal link to a download package. This download package will provide you with the film in high resolution as a .mov file type. The download package has a size of 1,6GB. We will use to handle the files.

If you would like to use a DVD player to screen the film then you can burn a playable DVD using a DVD burner application and the film file in the download package.

You can either connect it to a projector or one of those modern TVs, or simply screen it on your computer´s screen.

An Island is a music film. We encourage you to make sure that you can screen the film properly and with good and clear sound.
